In Search of Gold...
Varaždin, Trakošćan, Ivanec, Lepoglava, Varaždinske Toplice, Zelendvor, Ludbreg,
Gornji Kneginec - alredy familiar and yet still undiscovered. Here is a new path
to tread, along which you will search for and discover gold in: rays of sunlight,
drops of wine, spring water, ripe grapes, baroque churches, angels, mines, chests,
honey biscuits, splendid balls, Roman ruins, healing water, candles, heralds, the
hands of craftsmen, a bird, a golden laught, lace....
This is a path you will want to tread again and again to find a unique gold which
will be yours and yours alone...

Itinerary A
In Search of Gold - City Varaždin duration: approx. 3h
Meeting the local guide at the square Franjevački trg in front of the statue of Grgur Ninski placed in front of the Franciscan Church and leaving together towards the very center of the town - square Trg kralja Tomislava – populary called Korzo, where the Town Hall is. At first the group watches the city-guard exchange after which the old type of Mayor called Rihter will inform the group that exactly they are chosen for the adventure – In search of Gold. – The Rihter will also suggest the group to experience the city of Varaždin in the best way, only that they before learning about the city should become the citizens of Varaždin. In addition of the old Statue text the whole group is accepted to become the citizens of Varaždin and they are given small passeport - Varaždinski putni list - which is written in calligraphy letters for every participant. After that the Rihter accompanies the group to the sightseeing of Varaždin, first to the old castle Stari grad tower – Kula - where little drummers are waiting for the group for the sacramentally gate opening of the old County of Varaždin. Following the guide and his stories about the old castle the group slowely approaches to the entrance of the old castle Stari grad. In the castle courtyard will be little girls wearing the crinoline dresses and performing the dance until the County Prefect appears – Erdödy count (theatre acter) who talks to the group giving the honour to the Knight and to the Court-Lady. Upon the allowence of the County Prefect visiting the castle interior guided by the castle custodian.
After that leaving for the square of the traditional handicrafts - Trg tradicionalnih obrta – for a little souvenir shopping. At the end of the tour every participant is awarded with a written licence and a seal of Varaždin that says:
„ The Gold doesn't exist as the Gold, it is in each one of You – it is
what You've experienced today during this nice tour. Nobody
can take it away from You and You will always be able to
bring back the memories on this beautiful day, on our beautiful
town of Varaždin. Come back with a GOLDEN memories in Your

The countyside around Varaždin
Situated by the River Drava, the Slovenian border
and Hungary;on the edge of Panonia and the Alps; not far
from Adriatic; and with good road connections to all parts
of Europe, the countryside around Varaždin is a special
place within easy reach of any traveller. If you take the
road heading from Varaždin towards Trakošćan, you pass through
Ivanec, a town rich in culture, history and beautiful nature.
The road then continues to Zelendvor - the hunting ground
of Count Bombelles; on to the vineyards and hills of Gornji
Kneginec; to Ludbreg in Podravina; to the Roman archaeological
excavation site and thermal springs of Varaždinske Toplice,
finaly, to Varaždin.
So let the journey begin...
Itinerary B
In Search of Gold - Ivanec, Trakošćan, Lepoglava duration: approx. 5h
Meeting with the proffessional guide at 10am and coach drive towards Ivanec. Upon the arrival welcome of the host wearing the autochthonous costume and attending the demonstration of the old mill called Friščićev mlin by running the water and making the old corn flour bread. Tasting the well known salami/sausage caled Ivanečki jeger, the corn flour domestic cake and the corn flour bread. At the end attending the presentation of the old pottery.
After a short break the coach drive continues towards Trakošćan. Upon the arrival slow walk up to the castle and sightseeing of the museum by following the custodian.
After the castle museum sightseeing a short break and the coach drive towards Lepoglava. Upon the arrival sightseeing of the Church of St. Maria recognizable for many frescos made by Ivan Ranger.
At the end visiting the Lepoglava Lace Association and attending the Lepoglava Lace making.
At the end of the tour every participant is awarded with a written licence and a seal of Varaždin that says:
